Below is the full Speech of Mr Mordecai Sunday Ibrahim:
TOGETHER, WE CAN DO BETTER!
Kachia LGA PDP Exco.
12 Ward PDP Chairmen
Our well respected PDP observers here present
Gentlemen of the press
I bring you all very special greetings first from my wife and children with whose gracious permission I am in this race for the Kachia Constituency seat of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
The race for the 2019 elections has since begun and we have seen aspirants’ posters, banners and billboards all over the place seeking to be elected as your representatives.
For me, the time has come for the electorates to urgently begin a CRITICAL ASSESSMENT of all the ASPIRANTS especially before the various political parties hold their primary elections to produce their flag bearers. It should be noted and seriously too, that the right time to decide who becomes the member representing your Constituency at the Kaduna State House of Assembly is NOW. If we don’t get it right during the party primary elections, we may NEVER CORRECT it again until probably after four wasted years or even more.
Remember that our REPRESENTATIVE at the State Assembly often largely decides our political fate and destiny. He also decides whether to assist the Local Government Chairman will work tirelessly to develop the Area or not. Therefore, it is our choice to decide whom we shall entrust with our MANDATE. We must be the ones to decide who should be our representative. We should not allow any God-father to decide for us who our representative should be. A candidate sponsored by a God-father will never work for the interest of the generality of the people of Kachia Constituency. His only and consuming concern shall be to work for the interest of his God-father.
It is my considered opinion that such a member must FIRST be ready to render SELFLESS SERVICE to our people – he must not be selfish and greedy. Such MEMBER must be RELIABLE, DEPENDABLE, HONEST, TRUTHFUL, A MAN OF UNQUESTIONABLE INTEGRITY AND CHARACTER. A HUMBLE, RESPECTFUL, BUT FIRM PERSON. A member who relates well with the High and the lowly, the rich and the poor, the young and the old. He must be large hearted, accommodative and have a true forgiving lifestyle. He must be compassionate and always ready to share with others what God has blessed him with. A member who has connection in the state and across the country with which he can lobby and bring development to our Constituency.
Such a member must have a good understanding of government and governance. The member must know how to and be ready to put to maximum use the instrument of LOBBYING in politics and legislative duties. The member must be one that has capacity and boldness in true humility to approach the state governor and all that matter to LOBBY for projects to be located in his Constituency. The member must be ready to be accountable to the electorate because it is their RIGHT to know what their elected representative is doing on their behalf. A member that will against all odds rise up and speak for you on the floor of the State Assembly whenever the need arises; especially in times of crises. Not a member that will negotiate away the interest of the Constituency for his personal gains.
This therefore, calls for a REGULAR CONSULTATIVE MEETING with the Constituents of the member. And that is why I have produced a handbill which is being shared to you all. Please, the content of the handbill is part of my contract and covenant with you, the entire people of Kachia Constituency.
MY VISION AND MISSION
In the course of the practice of my journalism profession for over 25 years, I was privileged to see many things, the good, the bad and the ugly. Of all that I saw, I became persuaded that there is a dire need for things to be done in a different way so that better results could be achieved for the entire citizenry of Kachia LGA.
My fellow constituents, I am in this race purely out of my conviction, the promptings of the Holy Spirit and sincere desire for service to humanity. I present myself to the people of Kachia Constituency as a credible alternative to be elected as your Member.
I was moved to join this race for the State Assembly out of my burning desire for an inclusive consultative and proactive representation. To my mind, the Kaduna State House of Assembly is a place that requires business-like representation, as it would take only a Member with a business mind-set to be able to lobby and bring to the people of our Constituency the good but very limited and highly competitive dividends of democracy available in the State.
I am quite aware that seeking to be elected as the representative of the people of Kachia Constituency at the State Assembly amounts to asking the people to repose their trust and confidence in me – i.e. trusting me with their democratic destiny. This is certainly a huge demand and responsibility. Therefore, I am approaching this as a divine call to duty both to men and ultimately to God Almighty.
I shall strive to ensure that I contribute effectively and efficiently in all the processes of law making, oversight functions and all other expectations of the Kachia electorates.
My mission if given the mandate as your flag-bearer and when eventually elected as the Kachia Constituency Representative is to provide credible representation through organized quarterly consultations and the promotion of respect and value for the collective good and interest of our people. Together, we shall pursue projects such as:
1. Sponsoring Bills (laws) that will ensure that our secondary schools return to their former status unlike what is presently obtainable where almost all the schools do not have well trained and qualified teachers to teach English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Economics and other important subjects. The absence of well trained and qualified teachers of the above listed subjects in the secondary schools of our respective Wards and villages has reduced our secondary schools to primary school status. It is now difficult to say that out of the products of our secondary schools in Kachia Constituency, 10 medical doctors, 10 engineers, 10 architects and related professionals have graduated from Nigerian Universities in the last 15 years. This is not acceptable! I shall lobby the governor and the Ministry of Education and give the local government leadership NO REST until the situation changes for good.
2. I shall use my connection in the state and across Nigeria to bring well-to-do Nigerians (philanthropists) to help build Skills Acquisition Centres where our youths and women can learn and acquire skills in vocations such as carpentry, computer operation, cosmetic making, tailoring & fashion design, electrical installations, repair of refrigerators and other skills that would help the trainees to be able to “catch their own fishes” rather than waiting to be given fishes by politicians who would eventually use them as thugs during elections.
I urge you therefore to shine your eyes and critically examine us, the aspirants for this and other positions in our State and Federal Constituencies and also our senatorial zone. This is important because the business of representation is not to be taken frivolously for it amounts to entrusting our destiny and that of our future generations in the hands of wolfs. Your vote is your RIGHT and POWER.
I voluntarily enter this social contract with you on my HONOUR. You can rely on me to keep my PROMISE. I shall NOT FAIL or DISAPPOINT you. I therefore plead with you to make up your minds, speak to your Ward Exco members and delegates to vote for me during the PDP primary election on October 2.
A vote for MORDECAI SUNDAY IBRAHIM at the forthcoming PDP Primary elections is a vote for credibility, development, freedom and economic empowerment.
Trust Me with Your Mandates…you won’t regret because I know that Kachia Constituency needs a Credible and Vibrant Representative who shall provide representative service with integrity.
YES, TOGETHER, WE CAN DO IT BETTER!
MORDECAI SUNDAY IBRAHIM
